Introduction

Have you lost hope that your relationships can ever fully recover from the damage that has been caused?
If you feel discouraged today, I want you to know that you are not alone.
God desires to mend your broken relationships. For this reason, He gave you His Holy Spirit. Through Him, you will see the miraculous power of God restore, heal, and redeem your broken relationships.
In this blog, I will focus on 3 characteristics of the Holy Spirit to help you grow in intimacy with God and learn how to build healthy relationships through His love.
Who is the Holy Spirit?
The Holy Spirit is the invisible Spirit of God. He is the only set apart God that chooses to live inside of His people. He is everywhere all at once and nothing surpasses His power. He is radiant, beautiful, majestic, holy, pure, and perfect. Holy Spirit is a person and there is no one like Him.
When Jesus left this earth He left us His Spirit to help us overcome anything the world throws at us. When we receive Jesus into our hearts, the Spirit lives inside of us. We become ONE with God.
The Holy Spirit was sent to demonstrate the power, authority, presence, fruit, and nature of God. Through Him, we are capable of accomplishing everything we need to here on earth. He helps us on our mission to do God’s will and bring heaven down to earth. With the Holy Spirit, all things are possible.
The Comforter
The Holy Spirit comforts those who mourn. Like a mother, the Holy Spirit shows the nurturing side of God who lavishes us with His love. He is kind, gentle, lowly, present, safe, and always ready to receive you with open arms. You can run to Him when you are feeling discouraged, angry, or heartbroken. Where relationships have left you disappointed, He will hold you through every moment.
The best way to communicate with the Holy Spirit during difficult times is to be honest, vulnerable, and share your authentic thoughts with Him. If you choose to not let Him into your heart, He won’t force it. He will patiently wait for you to come. Once you are ready, He will gently knock on the door of your heart and bring healing to areas that feel painful. He will be like a soothing balm on your wounds. Although it will hurt to go through the pain, the Comforter will guide you to the other side.
Love in action: Grab a journal and sit with for 10 minutes. Reflect on what’s been weighing heavy on your heart and allow the Holy Spirit to minister to your heart. Be honest and vulnerable with Him. Write down revelations and encouragement from Him.
The Counselor
When you experience trauma, the Holy Spirit leads you to breakthrough. He comes in to do heart surgery and remove the parts of your heart that don’t belong. He repaints the foundations of your beliefs, breaks the lies, and unravels your soul. He searches you and knows you more than you could ever know yourself. He goes into the depths of your soul to bring healing, comfort, and rest.
When navigating a difficult relationship, you can lean on the Holy Spirit to shed light on the areas that need to be mended and those you may need to forgive. He will convict your heart and will not let you stay where you are. He loves you too much to allow you to wallow for too long. He won’t let you live in shame, bitterness, and resentment. Your great Counselor walks with you through the hurtful moments until you let go your pain in order to step into freedom.
If you are experiencing brokenness in a relationship: pray, share, and read the word. Through intentional effort towards reconciliation, you will experience breakthrough in any situation. Through prayer, you can ask the Holy Spirit to come alongside to comfort, defend, and guide you as a Shepherd. In moments of persecution or betrayal, He comes as our Advocate to show us the Father’s protection over our lives and relationships. His desire is to see your relationships have peace, unity, and prosperity.
Love in action: Write down 5 lies that you are believing about people in relationships or the Holy Spirit. Allow the Holy Spirit to speak truth into these areas.
The Spirit of Adoption
You have been adopted into a family through the Spirit of Adoption. God has grafted you into His holy people. You are no longer an orphan. You now have a family that is larger than you can imagine, fully of people who love Jesus and desire to love you too.
You don’t have to live life alone. You have a body of believers who eagerly wait for you to draw near. The Spirit of Adoption helps you to break the walls of independence and lean on others in humility.
You may be afraid to step into something new. I encourage you to take a step forward and encounter God’s love through His children. People in church won’t be perfect but they will have the same Spirit of Adoption that you carry that can help you both navigate difficult circumstances. He will remind you that you were created to love one another as family. He will teach you how to forgive and bring restoration through His love.
Love in action: choose someone in the body of Christ that you need to forgive. Ask the Holy Spirit to help you forgive this person. Pray for that person and write a letter asking them for forgiveness where you have felt bitterness towards that person. Let the Holy Spirit lead you to take action as He sees fit.
Conclusion
The Holy Spirit is everything that we could ever possibly need. He holds all the wisdom, knowledge, understanding, and revelation of God. He is always willing to help and draws near to us in times of trouble. No matter what you are going through, you can count on the Holy Spirit to be with you and lead you to His peace, love, and joy.
