Living Without Shame: Healing and Embracing Your Identity in Christ

John 1:29
“…Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!” NIV
Before Christ, in Israel, God's people sacrificed animals to attone for their wrong doings. They weren't living. They were burdened by the shame of their sin, and forced to cover themselves only to again be defiled by the sin of the world.
If you've ever felt shame from something that you did wrong, and felt like nothing would ease the burden on your heart;
Look to the Lamb of God.
God sees you in your suffering. When Jesus went to the cross, He saw you in all your guilt and shame. He knew that nothing on earth could truly cover our sin unless He covered it for us. So in His overflowing love, Jesus gave His life to set us free.
Sometimes it feels like, despite being cleansed and made new, there's still small pangs of shame that follow us around daily. And we have to put the cross in a new perspective.
When we accept the blood given to us by Jesus, we allow God to come in and clean us from not only our past sin but our future sin as well. Maybe our future sin isn't as “great” of a wrong as it was before, but no matter what it is God doesn’t put it on our record. Instead, He tells us that He's doing a new thing in us!
His blood covers you forever!
Life still happens, and we make mistakes, but we are not called our mistakes no matter how many times we make them. Hebrews 10:14 says that Jesus has perfected forever those who are being made holy. We will always be being washed by the Blood of Christ, but know that you are made perfect in His sacrifice!
There is no mark on you! God has hung your dirty clothes to dry, now you are wearing His Holy gown!
Just a little further in Hebrews 10:17, the Lord's says Himself that He will remember your lawlessness no more. The Father is saying, “What is that you're holding? Ah! It doesn't matter, I'm captivated by you!”
Sometimes it's hard to feel grace, but that is nothing to be ashamed of! A lot of the time, I need to take my shame to God and my family in Christ because we were never meant to carry that weight. Being made new doesn't automatically force us to act or be a certain way, it's who we already are and are being made into. This is a journey of transformation, not requirement!
Let God remove from you shame! Eat His bread, drink His wine, and live in the freedom of redemption. Proclaim Psalm 26:6, “I wash my hands in innocence and go about Your altar, Lord.”
