Don't forget the Cross: Why Jesus' Sacrifice Still Matters Today
Share
For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him, and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross.
Colossians 1:19-20
Don’t let the cross become stale in your heart.
Jesus died for YOU so that you could be close to the Father!
That is not something to take lightly. Jesus came down from His thrown in heaven and took on flesh to become a human. He lived a full life while He was here on earth and experienced everything that humanity has ever experienced. He laughed, cried, and formed loving relationships with people. He was just like you and me except that He was also fully God which made Him perfect. He found a way to balance both identities on earth and allowed the Father to be the one He submitted to in full obedience. He did nothing without the Father’s direction and approval. He lived a blameless life of intimacy with God.
The time finally came when He it was His time to perform the greatest act of love that humanity has ever seen. He took His place as a spotless lamb ready to be slaughtered for our sins. He was beaten, tortured, and bled until His death on that painful and beautiful day. Then suddenly, the veil tore in half! The separation sin had caused between God and man was no more! Heaven opened up and showered redemption over our lives. We were given access to the Creator of the universe. We were given the beautiful gift of salvation and the right to become children of God and heirs to the throne! We received eternal life in perfection with God. This gift is irreplaceable and unfathomable. No greater gift can ever compare to the riches we receive from our heavenly Father.
That is why I need you to pay close attention…
THE CROSS IS ENOUGH!
The act of love that Jesus did on the cross is enough for you today.
His blood will cover a multitude of sins. It will heal every wound and broken part of your life. Don’t forget the sacrifice that Jesus did on the cross. Don’t let it become common. It will NEVER be.
Jesus did something miraculous and so pure that we can never truly fathom how someone could choose to go through a horrible death for the sake of sinners. The Word says that while we were still sinners, Christ died for our sins (Romans 5:8). Jesus knew what you would do in your past, present, and future. He still willingly chose to endure the cross because of that joy set before Him: our reconciliation back to the Father and our heavenly family being restored in perfect unity for eternal bliss.
We didn’t earn or deserve this sacrifice. But Jesus did it as an act of pure agape unconditional love. A love that will never fade or abandon us. A love that never fails.
Today, REMEMBER the cross.
Remember His faithfulness.
Remember His abounding love, mercy, and grace.
Run to the Father with your suffering. He will be so kind, compassionate, and gracious to wrap you in His loving arms. It doesn’t matter what you’ve done or will do. His love for you will never change.
